Title: Is there a god?
Description: How does your position affect you view o
truespock - June 26, 2012 08:25 PM (GMT)
First of all, I'd like to say that no one really knows...and we may NEVER know. Religious folk will quote their 'holy words of god' and atheists will retaliate with scientific theories. And where might a god--or the absence of one--fit into the Star Trek mythos?!
You guys tell me.
Nelis - June 27, 2012 02:40 AM (GMT)
Dude! Totally there is a God! He is the head Dude and with out the head Dude we're all just dust in the wind!
Be excellent!
truespock - June 27, 2012 05:16 AM (GMT)
Nelis=a brand new identity never before seen on any Trek board, which suggests a dual disguising someone we DO know...someone doing a really poor Bill and Ted imitation that could be meant to infer a person of about fifty or, perhaps an eighteen year old from southern California. He has not, in all likelihood, given us a serious answer to our question, but let's indulge him and see where it goes.
So, tell us, Nelis, why it is that you believe there is a god?
startrekcomsucks - June 27, 2012 09:54 PM (GMT)
Hmm there might be some kind of intelligence behind the universe but I don't think there's an afterlife. At least not for us because of how our brains work That makes the whole God question irrelevant for me.
truespock - June 29, 2012 05:04 AM (GMT)
I just heard about a 'renegade scientist' who believes that the entire universe is a giant, intelligent quantum computer.
As far as I'm concerned, the problem with religion AND science is that they BOTH just make shit up and expect everyone else to believe it!
Mankind does not really KNOW anything about ANYTHING!!

Okay, how 'bout THIS one:
We are all just talking monkeys (some more so than others) who got here completely by genetic accident and will not be missed when we're gone. The only reason that so many of us insist on the existence of a 'god' with arbitrary behavior standards for admission to the 'afterlife' is to exploit our unilateral fear of our own impermanence in order to forfeit control of our lives to the relative few among us who set themselves up as 'his' representatives.
Always remember, boys and girls, any 'god' with strings attached is ultimately only a puppet!!
startrekcomsucks - June 30, 2012 06:36 AM (GMT)
We pretty much die every time we go to sleep. The part of our brains responsible for consciousness and ego are shut off for a time. It should be the equivalent of death from a subjective point of view.
truespock - June 30, 2012 10:12 AM (GMT)
Sleep is not death in the sense of a permanent END to our particular individual consciousness and ego, these being momentarily shunted aside for the purpose allowing the unconscious mind to rise to the fore and deal with all of the bullshit in our waking lives with which we cannot effectively cope. Ironically, if we could simply act upon our every base instinct in our waking state, such as merely extinguishing anyone who annoyed us, we wouldn't need to sleep at all.
But the thing we all fear more than life itself is that moment when the randomly configured clump of habitually misfiring neurons that we think of as 'me' ceases to function. We all know it's coming, virtually from the instant we are born, and we'll go to any lengths whatsoever to avoid the inevitable loss of that all-important sense of ourselves.
This is why most of humanity must tell themselves that there is some kind of a 'god' out there, complete with a blissful and crap-free 'afterlife'. This, in and of itself is a harmless enough delusion, but there will always be a few unscrupulous individuals who seek to use our own mortal terror against us is order to gain control over us--much as George W. Bush did during his presidency.
Now we have a set of rules by which only strict adherence will get us into 'heaven', and the weak-willed and especially stupid among us are falling all over themselves to impose those rules on everybody else. Simply put, man made 'god' is HIS image...not the reverse!
startrekcomsucks - June 30, 2012 02:54 PM (GMT)
True true but the experience of death is probably just like going to sleep. Except you don't wake up
truespock - July 2, 2012 05:21 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I'd like to try that, soon.

You're so puerile that you can be summed up in two words: fatuous and excremental
truespock - July 7, 2012 03:47 AM (GMT)
Boring, Steve. Anybody can call another guy names, and most everybody does. Why not say something halfway intelligent, just to show me that you CAN!

There's no need. Off hand standard issue comments are all a person of your low status deserve.
Nelis - July 9, 2012 05:30 PM (GMT)
See I do believe that there is a God. A God that created the Earth and everything on it, even you Dude. But I am not one to force feed my beliefs on anyone else. Simply put, you don't believe in God, then that is your choice. I believe in God, that is my choice.
Kind of like those that choose to be vegetarians or vegans and those that choose to eat meat. I like a good steak, but I'm not going to insist or force a vegetarian or a vegan to eat a steak or the same foods I choose to eat. All I ask them is to respect my choice and not force their ways on me.
Now I've been reading your latest posts, yours and Mossura100's. I may not be use big words or flaunt my intellect around, but that does not mean that I am in any way, shape or form, a simpleton. Yeah, I like Cheech and Chong, Monty Python and even Bill and Ted and I have many varied beliefs. What I choose to say or share does not reflect on my intelligence. Nor should it.
Yeah, I'm not working in some college or some cushy office, but that does not mean I'm stupid. I like to hunt and fish, but that does not make me a neanderthal. I don't do it for sport, that meat goes to help feed me and my family. I like being outdoors. I like communing with nature! I also like a nice motel/hotel, too B)
What I have seen from the recent posts makes me think of the playground. One person either meets their match or is called on something so the first person says, "I'm taking my toys and going home/away!"
That isn't going to solve anything. All it does is show that all anyone needs to do is push a few more buttons or call the other a few more names or have the gall to disagree with the person and that person will get mad and proclaim, loudly, that they are going away and that they will (I apologize in advance for borrowing your words from another post to quote here)

"permanently suspended myself"

Dude, you want to leave then that is your choice, 100% But can you really blame everyone/anyone else for your choice? The Admin of this board isn't asking you to leave or banning you, at least I don't see that they are doing that. I guess I could go and look or ask at the other boards you were at, but with the exception of startrek.com since they do like to sling that ban hammer like crazy, I do have to wonder if the others really banned you or asked you to leave or forced you to leave.
I was hoping that we could have some decent chats. But after reading some of your latest posts, I now know that I would feel like I had to censor myself to keep from making you angry or from my possibly and unintentionally saying or doing something that you would think is/was an insult and then going off on me.
Dude, I can say with 100% honesty that that is not why I came to this board. I do not go looking for fights or go looking to insult anyone. If I accidentally do, then I ask for forgiveness or at least explain myself.
Whoa! I just looked over all that I typed! Guess I had a lot on my mind and needed to get it all out.
Dude truespock, gonna give you some advice and what you choose to do with it is up to you, but try to not be so serious and try to not read into what people type/say. Most times a leaf is really just a leaf. If you are going to insult others and attack them then don't be surprised if they respond in kind. And the last bit I'll say is that you really can't assume what another members intelligence is. They may be dumber than you, but they just might be as 'smart' or smarter than you. Intelligence, true intelligence, isn't just 'book' smarts, but 'people' smarts, too.
Sometimes, and somehow, people need to let go of the past so they can live in the present and move onto the future.
If you want to still leave, then Ciao and I hope you find some peace of mind, Dude B)
